Joey Gallo powers Nationals past Marlins

Nationals win 6-3, Gallo goes 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBIs

Washington Nationals first baseman Joey Gallo hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added an RBI single in the third to help lead his team to a 6-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night at Nationals Park.

Gallo's homer was his 12th of the season and gave the Nationals an early 2-0 lead. He now has 46 RBIs on the season.

The Nationals added two more runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Gallo and a sacrifice fly by Yadiel Hernandez.

The Marlins got on the board in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jorge Soler, but the Nationals answered back with a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Luis Garcia.

The Marlins scored two more runs in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Avisail Garcia, but the Nationals bullpen held on to secure the victory.

Tanner Rainey (2-0) earned the win for the Nationals, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings of relief. Brad Hand (1-3) took the loss for the Marlins, allowing five runs on seven hits in four innings.

The Nationals improved to 41-61 with the win, while the Marlins fell to 44-58.
